Quizzes + Exams
Assessment Basics
Where do I take quizzes and exams?
You may take them anywhere with a stable internet connection. Assessments are not proctored, and you may use your own notes. You are responsible for demonstrating your own knowledge and may not discuss assessment contents with anyone until after the due date.
How many attempts do I get?
You have one attempt for each Quiz and Exam. Once you begin, the timer continues even if your connection is interrupted, so choose a time and place with reliable internet.
Can I make up a missed quiz or exam?
Make up assessments are only available with a documented medical emergency. If you enrolled after a quiz due date, contact Dr. Ashburn; the missed quiz may be exempted from your grade, though you remain responsible for its material.
Can I take an assessment early for planned travel?
Yes. Contact Dr. Ashburn at least one week in advance so there is enough time to arrange it. Do not discuss the assessment with classmates before the due date.
When is the best time to take an online assessment?
Plan ahead and avoid waiting until Sunday evening, when heavy Lamaku traffic can cause slowdowns. Completing work early gives you time to respond to technical problems.

Do I turn in the practice worksheets?
No. Worksheets are for practice and do not need to be submitted. I am happy to help with any questions or discuss any worksheet problem.
Do I submit the textbook problems?
No. Textbook problems are optional practice. Complete as many as you need to build mastery and ask for help whenever you need it.
Do I need to buy a textbook?
No. All Quiz and Exam material comes from my lectures. The free Ball, Hill, and Scott Open Educational Resource textbook is available online and as a downloadable PDF for additional reading and practice.

Grades
Are there Exam redos?
No. Exams are meant as summative assessment which is an indicator of your learning and mastery of the material.
Is extra credit available?
No. To keep the course fair for everyone, there are no exam corrections, volunteer activities, or extra assignments for additional points. Office hours and email support are available to help you do your best.
Are grades curved?
No. Your classmates are collaborators not competitors. If you earn 90% of the available points, you earn an A; 80% earns a B, and so on. Every student has the same opportunity to succeed.

Is tutoring available?
During Fall and Spring semesters, the Learning Resource Center offers free tutoring for Leeward Community College students, depending on tutor availability. Summer session tutoring may also available. Visit the tutoring page for current information.

Contact Dr. Ashburn to arrange an extension. Official documentation from a commanding officer is required.
